John Stewart on Crossfire

I was pointing out part of a quote from this that has always stuck with me... and it is just the idea that john Stewart points out... that in reality... people just left out too mow their lawns. It's almost a disservice to these people that they end up having to focus on things beyond trying to be a good parent, and a good employee at work, and a good citizen. That they have to avoid being brainwashed by the political machine, or be Sold some bullshit bill of goods by corporate America.

For those that don't know... this was the Nail in the coffin of Crossfire, it was canceled 3 months later.

I saw this episode live when it aired a few years ago and I thought Tucker had a good point although he didn't really articulate it.

John Kerry would not come on Crossfire but he would go on the Daily Show and that is a political calculation on his part-- he knew he would be lobbed softballs by Stewart and would be looked upon favorably by the young demographic, a vote he desperately needed to nail.

Carlson pointed out that Stewart has a resposibility as a citizen to ask him tougher questions. Kerry was not on the daily Show as a movie star or to promote a book, he was on there as a POLITICAL CANDIDATE FOR OFFICE. Our democracy lives and dies on serious debate by EVERYone-- not just news shows. Stewart squandered a golden opportunity to get Kerry on the record on any number of issues.

Crossfire failed because of the personalities of the hosts. Carlson is a libertarian and that political stance is not popular on either end of the spectrum. Everyone wants intervention by the govt now.

Begala is just a breathless partisan.
