Looks like Colin powell is going to put up a fight for the Heart of the GOP. After being blasted by the people driving the party too far to the Right(Rush, Dick).... We may just have a new Republican Movement.
The party of Colin Powell
There are times when party loyalty asks too much, JFK once said, but for Powell there rarely seems to be a time when it doesn't. Though he owes every lofty position he has held - national security adviser, four-star general, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, secretary of state - to GOP presidents, Republicans perpetually appear to rub him the wrong way: especially the conservatives who constitute the party's base.
"Can we continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh?" he asked on CNN after throwing his support to Obama. "Is this really the kind of party that we want to be, when these kinds of spokespersons seem to appeal to our lesser instincts rather than our better instincts?"

Makes one wonder if Powell has some pangs of regret that he didn't run in 2000-- he likely could have won.
The narrative form the small-govt crowd is that Bush was not really a small-govt president; we still have yet to really try small-govt.
Powell says, "they [Republicans] should realize that their philosophy of lower taxes and limited government has put them out of step..." But there is still a vocal minority that might even split off into a Ron Paul contingent and maybe even make a new party.
