I hate Free Tibet

I'm sorry... this is political.... I'm not sure that Tibetan Buddhism.. .Represents Buddhism.
I'm not sure that Buddisum should have a Country...

In fact this whole thing just sets up as a "new Jerusalem" ...
Yet another worthless land for people to fight over, for no good reason.... Or for stupid Reason.

No good Christian would fight over Jerusalem. And.... no good Buddhist, would fight over Tibet.

And Why a bunch of worthless Hippies, would Get in a Circle of 7 people in Tienanmen square, and have a protest..... I can't believe they just didn't ignore it.

Now IF THEY LIT THEMSELVES ON FIRE..... That would be something.

In Case I get some web searches for "Free Tibet"..... Let me just say it again..... IF YOU WANT TO MAKE A FREE TIBET STATEMENT, and it means so much to you...... LIGHT YOURSELF ON FIRE TO SHOW YOUR COMMITMENT.

I just can't believe, that people fight over... Religious homelands.... You don't see Mormons fighting for Nauvoo Illinois.

Home is where you make it.

I'm no virulent Tibetophile or anything, but I would point out a glaring mistake in the comparison of Tibet with Jerusalem, or even Nauvoo Illinois for that matter.

The Tibetans were minding their own business, clinking their prayer beads, flying their pennants, looking for the next incarnation of some spirit, etc, you know, enjoying self-determination.

Then one day a despotic authoritarian regime shows up at their gate and tells them that they cannot do these things anymore and now must swear allegiance to an unelected, insane, murderous leader thousands of miles away.

Jerusalem, on the other hand, was continuously populated by a distinct race of people, half of which stayed and became Muslim and the other half left as a diaspora 1200 years ago to try their hand at success in the rest of the world. About 60 years ago, the diaspora tired of the bullshit in the rest of the world and decided to reclaim their half of the Levant-- except they failed to realize that the half that stayed back 1200 years ago were still living there and had moved into the territory left vacated by the diaspora.

This prodigal group of returning diaspora went to great pains to secure powerful political and military allies and re-took their land by any means possible, killing and imprisoning the continuous inhabitants of their previous and future homeland.

This is much different than Tibet. In fact, the Palestinians are more like the Tibetans-- and perhaps that is what you meant-- and while religion has some role in this controversy, it is only a tool used for political purpose, giving license to one group to hate, murder or imprison another group.

Nice!!!! That was an impressive response.

Wars are over power, resources, Land...
The usual "Thousand Natural Shocks, that flesh is Heir to."

I find it Disingenuous,Deceptive..etc to say it's about Religion. When it's about Resources and power.

And the People of Tibet, have every right to have sovernty/freedom, over both the Chinese, and the Buddhist monks.

You have my point, But to make it more generally, and There is no "Moral" religion, that would support Killing over resources.... All the while Calling it "Divine Providence".

And in Tibet, there are still Little guys clicking their prayer beads... Problem is, there are a bunch of hippy Americans, who are so ignorant about Buddhism, that they think Escalating that conflict(Escalating the Suffering). Is somehow a Buddhist way.

As I get on these rants... I'm not pro china, But "Every journey takes a Thousand Steps", and they seem on their way.... As do we as Americans BTW.

As opposed to the Russians, Who are still just on this side of a Corrupt Fascist Police state... Mostly because they Moved too fast.

Agreed, agreed and agreed.

Self-determination predicates that if a bunch of people are bothering other people and just want to peacefully recite their mantra, then what's wrong with that?

Yeah, American hippies are annoying, but are they any less annoying than American imperialists arming Saudi sheiks in order to requisition OUR oil that happens to have been put under THEIR sand? I know it's a pain in the ass to see their demonstrations when you're trying to watch the Mali Archery team versus Mongolia, but heck that's what lame international sports entertainment is all about (see if you see any political drama during the BoSox vs ChiSox game tonight.)

You know, Eric, I have to give the American hippies a pass on this one. Religion has been used for such shitty things throughout the ages, and sure it's all a crock of crap cooked up to promote someone's political agenda, but in this case the political agenda is way way way more valid than any other I can venture to think about. Protect the homeland and self-determination of a peaceful cult of bald bead clinkers who never bothered anyone. Go for it.

The Zionists, on the other hand....

Should read, "...a bunch of people WHO are NOT bothering other people..."

(I gotta proofread better.)

buddhism teaches 2 things "suffering, and the Cessation of suffering."

As I see it, the Cessation requires the "De-Escalation of Anger and Violence.... and those "Thousand shocks""

And not Escalating it... You don't see the Dali Lama out there Protesting.....
And the "People of Tibet" did suffer under a Caste system that the "Peaceful Bead Clankers", Tied like a Yoke on the Population. Say you believe in Karma.... Maybe that is why the Buddhists, don't live there any more.

Your link was not functional, but I'll assume there was some airtight evidence of some despotic monk pistol whipping a congregant in prayer, or a Tibetan feudal lord raping his serf's daughters.

Every one is entitled to their own opinion and I guess one could argue that the Communist regime with its cultural revolution and Maoist cult of personality is superior to the dastardly Buddhist monks and that asshole Dalai Lama, and the Chinese were perfectly justified in sacking Tibet.

Tibetan autonomy is popular among Tibetans and I know of no poll showing that Tibetans would rather be under the governmental control of the People's Republic of China. It's not really about religion as much as self-determination.

Under your premise is based on might makes right and since the Chinese have a larger military then they can enforce their will upon the Tibetans. I guess that's valid-- heck, it's the American modus operandi as well.

Everyone has their own opinion, and I'm the first to admit that mine is based on an imperfect knowledge of the situation.

I like your maps.

Nice, You are on one today.

I'm just saying it's all the same.

some Asshole; Osama, Bush, Dalli lama, Hussein, King Fahd, Mao, Obama, McSame, Kudlow, Nero, Constintine, David Koresh, Jesus, Me. Wants to be God, and Is just populist enough to convince people to follow them. Then uses that to "Serve their Self Serving Needs".... Becomes Emperor... Power corrupts and they become Hitler/Mao.

and the only solution is a good democracy...

And some day we will find one.

But... The improvement in the Chinese over the past 20 years is Impressive. As far as "Growth Toward "Self determination" for the population, It's impressive.

I'd say almost as impressive as Iran, except when the talking monkey said "Axis of evil" we set them back 20 years. Hell they were on the Virge of a cultural revolution till we fucked it up.

And If I had any Balls I'd say that the only reason Jesus didn't become "The Jewish Hitler", is because the Christians Lucked out and Rome Martyred him.... So that instead of some Crazy Failed Jewish King, he became some kind of Mystical Archetype.

Damn... You and I don't have enough to do today....

It probably is unfair to compare Mao with the Lama, and Jesus to Hitler.

Probably.
